22 men sued for gold bars scam By Joy G. Romares
DAVAO CITY -- A Japanese national accused 22 persons, 15 among them unidentified, of duping him of his P2 million in a staged gold bar deal in July this year.
Sued for estafa and robbery are Faustino Yambot and his uncle, Crisanto, one Rodolfo Ledesma whose real name is Sofronio Bontuyan, Jun Alejan alias Datu Gomer, Loreto Tawas, Renato Pasandog, a certain Johnny Alaman, and 15 men, who were still unidentified as of press time.
Tetsuo Fujiwara, of legal age, a resident of 139 Carmelite Avenue, Ladislawa in Buhangin, filed the complaint.
Tawas, Pasandog, and Alaman are now detained at the Calinan police detention cell after they were arrested by the police in an entrapment operation on October 27 in a fake golden buddha deal with Gloria Lariva, a resident of Mintal.
In his sworn affidavit, Fujiwara said he met Faustino Yambot on May 20, 2005 at the Phela Grande Hotel in General Santos City where the latter offered him gold bars at a very low price.
According to the complainant, Faustino's uncle, Crisanto, knows a native from Bukidnon who found the gold bars.
Faustino and Crisanto introduced the native to the complainant as Rodulfo Ledesma.
Ledesma and Fujiwara made the negotiation and they agreed on P2 million for 6.2 kilos of gold bars.
Fujiwara claimed that on July 6, together with the Yambots, he met Datu Gomer, Tawas, Pasandog, Alaman, and 15 men in a farm in Quezon, Bukidnon where a ritual was made.
Fujiwara added that Datu Gomer even poured acid on the gold bars to show that these were real.
Datu Gomer led the ritual and placed the money beside the gold bars on the ground, said Fujiwara.
While the ritual was being conducted, Fujiwara said, several shots rang out, prompting him to hide behind his car. He said some of the men also scampered in different directions.
After a few minutes, Fujiwara said he went back to the field but his money and the gold bars and even the men were no longer to be found. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
