Palace keeps hands off fertilizer funds issue (10:32 a.m.)

MANILA -- Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said they will leave it to the lawmakers to explain and justify how they used and spent the fertilizer funds that they received from the government.

Ermita said the government, particularly the Department of Budget of Management (DBM), should not be blamed for the furor over the disbursement of the fertilizer funds as it was merely doing its job of releasing funds.

He said the congressmen are the ones who should account for the funds, adding that they should have supervised the disbursement and ensured that the fund was used for the purpose it was intended for.

The Senate and the House are now conducting separate inquiries on the alleged misuse of the P728 million fertilzier fund. (JMR)
