Ex-poll exec to submit passport in 7 days (2:20 p.m.)
MANILA -- Former Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano volunteered to submit his passport in 10 days to disprove claims that he left the country.
Garcillano agreed to submit his passport after Cavite Representative Gilbert Remulla asked the committee to issue a subpoena duces tecum on the poll official's passport.
Remulla's motion was objected by Representative Rodolfo Antonino questioning the relevance of the passport to the ongoing inquiry on poll fraud involving the controversial wiretapped tapes.
The committee has given Garcillano until December 14 to submit his passport.
Remulla demanded for the passport after Garcillano insisted that he never left the country despite the certification from the Singapore government that a certain Virigilio O Garcillano arrived in Singapore.
Remulla also told the committee that information he gathered from the Department of Foreign Affairs that only one Virgilio Garcillano has been issued a passport. The two other Garcillano's listed by the National Statistics Office do not have passports.(Sunnex)
