Driver key to solving agency chief's murder By Joy G. Romares
DAVAO CITY -- A passenger motorcycle driver holds the key to the identification of the man last seen with slain Southern Mindanao Technical Education Skills Development Authority (Tesda) regional director.
Tesda chief Roberto Barajan, 46, was found dead with around 30 stab wounds in his body inside his house in Ciudad de Esperanza at Cabantian, Buhangin district, Davao City Thursday afternoon.
A certain Adaro, driver, was the one who brought Barajan and an unidentified man -- described to be in his late 20's -- to the victim's house at around 12:30 a.m., Thursday.
"Adaro will be visiting our precinct Friday to give his description of the suspect for a cartographic sketch," said SPO1 Joseph Limbaco, Buhangin police precinct investigator.
Limbaco admitted that aside from identifying the driver and securing his cooperation, not much has been gathered about the crime yet.
"There's no other development in the case. In fact, our investigators are still in the area conducting further investigation," he said.
Barajan was found dead by his employees after he failed to send a text message to the office driver, Arnulfo Pelayo, to fetch him for work.
Pelayo said he was already waiting for Barajan's text message at the entrance of the Pag-ibig Subdivision along Diversion Road in Buhangin at around 7 a.m.
Pelayo said it was his routine to drive Barajan to the Tesda office at F. Iņigo Street. He said waited until noon, but still he did not receive any text message from Barajan.
He then called their office to inquire if Barajan already arrived but was told that he was not yet there.
Pelayo then asked an officemate to accompany him to Barajan's house.
They finally met at 2:45 p.m. and proceeded to Barajan's house where they immediately noticed bloodstains near the gate.
They saw Barajan dead on his bed with several stab wounds.
They then called the police who found Barajan's wristwatch, a silver bracelet, and a bloodied stainless steel knife.
Pelayo said the night before, around 6:30 p.m., Barajan asked to be brought to his relative's house along Mayon Street near Cosmopolitan Funeral Parlor.
The victim then instructed Pelayo to go home as he intended to stay longer at his relative's house. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
