Trader survives second attempt to shoot, kill him By Mia E. Abellana
CEBU CITY -- An Indian businessman escaped death Friday night when he and his family survived a gun attack by two men in Felina Village, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.
Zurgit "Johnny" Singh, 45, who survived a similar attack last month, got away with a graze in his stomach and another wound caused by a glass splinter in the right wrist.
His Filipina wife Janette, who was driving their vehicle, and two children--Iqbal, 18, and Amandeep, 11--were unharmed.
The Singhs were just a few meters from their house when two men on a motorcycle appeared.
The back passenger got off and then fired at the Singhs' vehicle successively, hitting the windshield several times.
The gunman immediately returned to the motorcycle, which then sped off to the main road in Tisa.
The gunman was initially described as 5'7" tall, of medium build, and wearing a black jacket and a helmet.
Police recovered 10 empty shells from a .45 pistol and two slugs.
Last Nov. 16, unidentified persons shot at Singh while he was drinking with friends at his restobar in Barangay Camputhaw.
He was wounded in the stomach and back.
In that shooting, a witness saw a woman inside a white car point out Singh to the gunman just before the incident.
Then the gunman allegedly went to the interlink fence surrounding the restobar and fired at Singh.
Police Officer 2 Jojo Ursaiz, a homicide investigator, said they are looking at personal grudge or business rivalry as motive for the attacks.
He said it was possible the gunman did not intend to kill Singh, but only wanted to scare him.
Ursaiz pointed out that all the shots were concentrated on the windshield.
They also believe the two incidents are related.
The Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) was called to inspect the crime scene.
Aside from spent shells, Soco operatives also brought the vehicle back to the Regional Crime Laboratory for analysis, while police continue their investigation.
