Manila marks annual feast of Black Nazarene (10:34 a.m.)
MANILA -- Police have rerouted traffic from the Quiapo area as hundreds of devotees of the Black Nazarene flocked to the patron's church in downtown Manila for its annual feast day.
The annual fiesta attracts devotees, mostly male dressed in maroon tshirts, who help tug the carroza bearing the image of the Black Nazarene through Quiapo's streets. Others toss towels or any piece of clothing to wipe the image, the carroza or even just the ropes that pull it, believing that it has miraculous benefits.
Traffic had been rerouted since early dawn Monday and will remain rerouted until early evening. Security is also very tight in the area. (Sunnex) |
