Ramos hits disunity in gov't (3:24 p.m.)

MANILA –- Former President Fidel Ramos on Monday rued the lack of unity and teamwork by elected officials of the country to make the Philippines globally competitive.

Ramos, in a press conference, also said the elected leaders do not care to market the country abroad.

The former President said his continued support for embattled President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo “is only incidental and secondary” as his foremost interest is the “people’s well-being and national integrity.”

He urged Arroyo to make changes in governance.

“Only she can answer that. Konsensyahan ‘to (it’s a matter of conscience),” Ramos replied when asked if he still supports Arroyo.

Ramos said there are many impending crises that the country will face so that the country’s leaders should get their act together.

He also urged the country’s younger set of leaders to come out and help in nation-building.

In the same press conference, Ramos rejected an alliance with former Presidents Corazon Aquino and Joseph Estrada to oust Arroyo.

He also reiterated that he is not interested in any government position like that of Prime Minister as he was already a President in the past. (Sunnex)
