Another village chief shot dead in Mexico
MEXICO -- Another barangay official in this Pampanga town was gunned down Monday morning, roughly one month since the killing of the only woman village chieftain here.
Ismael D. Lampa, of Barangay Pandacaqui in the town, was found dead at 7 a.m. in his home.
According to the victim's relatives, two unidentified men, armed with caliber .45 pistols, shot to death Lampa, one of the eldest village chairmen in Mexico.
Lampa was rushed to the Dee Hwa Liong Hospital in Mabalacat where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Witnesses said they had heard four to five gunshots before they found the lifeless victim.
In 2003, Lampa was charged with an administrative case spurred by alleged irregularity in the construction of a road in Pandacaqui.
His erstwhile "bantay-bayan" chief, Boy Alejandrino, spearheaded the filing of the case against him.
Police recovered four pieces of empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.
Lampa is the third barangay chief in the town killed since 2004. The first was Don Briones of Barangay Cuayan, followed by village chief Victorina Gomez. (ABL of Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
