Military chief confirms plot to unseat Arroyo (2:25 p.m.)

MANILA -- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Generoso Senga said there was indeed a plan to oust President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo over the weekend.

Senga said however that those involved were incapable to execute it. He said they are working hard to preempt the plot but if a coup pushes through, he assured the public that the AFP is always on top of the situation.

He admitted that there are disgruntled individuals in the military but that is expected in any organization and majority of AFP personnel remain loyal to the Constitution and chain of command.

Senga also denied that he has resigned saying he will continue to discharge his duties and responsibilities as AFP chief as long as President Arroyo trusts him or until he retires. (JFF)
