Erap supporters, militants hold protest in Edsa Shrine (10:38 a.m.)

MANILA -- Supporters of former President Joseph Estrada and members of militant and opposition groups have gathered at the Edsa Shrine in Ortigas Center on Friday and staged a lightning rally.

They called for the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The rowdy crowd have occupied the street surrounding the shrine, stalling traffic in the area.

The shrine is considered a no-rally area and the protestors there face dispersal, according to National Capital Region Police Office chief Vidal Querol.

All permits to rally issued by the government previously have been suspended because of the unstable situation in Metro Manila. (Sunnex)
