4 police officers restricted to camp (3:20 p.m.)

MANILA -- Four police officers, who were linked to the anti-government rallies last Friday, were ordered Monday restricted to the police headquarters in Camp Crame.

National Police chief Director General Arturo Lomibao said Monday he received information that ex-Special Action Force (SAF) Chief Superintendent Marcelino Franco, Superintendent Benjamin Magalon and two others only identified as Senior Inspector Paloma and Inspector Dilag have been "recruiting and encouraging" colleagues to join Friday's anti-government rallies.

Lomibao said Franco vehemently denied his involvement but intelligence reports showed otherwise.

"They were placed under restrictive custody in connection with reports that they are recruiting [troops to join the rallies]," Lomibao said.

"I believe that as a commander, he [Franco] has failed to command...he will be made to explain his actions," he added.

Administrative and criminal charges could be filed against the four pending the outcome of the investigation.

At the Armed Forces, Army Brigadier General Danilo Lim was restricted to quarters while Marine Colonel Ariel Querubin was placed under investigation for allegedly planning to join the street protests. (Sunnex)
