Gov't critics deny part in Arroyo ouster plan

MANILA (Updated 10:58 a.m.) -- Major opposition personalities on Monday denied involvement in a plot to oust the Arroyo Government through violent means.

What’s your opinion on Arroyo’s emergency rule? Post comment.

Jesus is Lord Movement (JIL) leader Eduardo "Brother Eddie" Villanueva, former defense secretary Renato de Villa, and former narcotics group chief Rex Piad made the denial in separate interviews.

The Armed Forces earlier revealed a plan by the extreme Left, extreme Right and political groups to remove President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The plot was uncovered from documents and flask drivers seized from recaptured Magdalo Group member First Lieutenant Lawrence San Juan, who was accused of allegedly meeting with communist rebels to discuss the ouster plan.

Villanueva doubted the authenticity of the documents as he accused the military of coming up with the false report. But he admitted talking to certain retired military officer "who sought his advice."

De Villa, for his part, said he would never be involved in any alliance with the communist group.

Piad likewise dismissed the accusations against him.

They accused the military of harassing government critics. (Sunnex)
