Ex-legislator accused of 'illegal demolition' (10:29 a.m.)

MANILA -- Graft charges were filed against former senator Ramon Revilla Sr., for the alleged illegal demolition of houses in Silang, Cavite.

Members of the peasant group Samahan ng mga Magsasaka sa Cabangaan trooped to the Office of the Ombudsman Tuesday to file the complaint against the former lawmaker, whose son Ramon Jr. is now in the Senate.

The group accused the elder Revilla of violating the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees and the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Revilla is currently the chairman of the Public Estates Authority (PEA).

Teodoro Garcia, chairman of the group, said Revilla allegedly committed the violation when he ordered the alleged illegal demolition of their houses in a 25-hectare lot located in Barangay Cabangaan, Silang, Cavite last February 3
despite a pending case at the Department of Agrarian Reform Adjudication Board. (DBP)
