4 hurt, P8 million lost in Diwalwal fire By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO CITY -- Four people were injured in an hour-long fire that hit the gold rush mountain of Diwalwal in Monkayo, Compostela Valley Saturday afternoon.
The fire reportedly damaged P8 million worth of property.
Mt. Diwata village chief Franco Tito identified those injured as Roldan Rosales, Junnifer Indog, Roger Tigullo, and one alias Dodong.
Tito said the fire that started around 1 p.m. at Purok 5 destroyed 18 houses.
About 37 families or 127 people were left homeless by the fire.
In the meantime, barangay officials are still clueless as to the origin of the fire.
But they said it could have been a gas lamp or candle left unattended that caused the fire as the entire barangay did not have power since Wednesday.
Affected families are now temporarily housed at a nearby chapel. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
