Actress pleads guilty to drug charge in US (3:38 p.m.)
LOS ANGELES -- Filipino actress Nora Aunor pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, a court official said.
Aunor, 52, entered her plea Wednesday before Superior Court Judge James Brandlin and joined a drug-diversion program, according to Superior Court spokeswoman Susan Matherly.
Sentencing was delayed for 18 months. Aunor can then request the charge be dropped if she has finished all the diversion requirements, Matherly said Thursday.
Aunor was arrested a year ago after security screeners at Los Angeles International Airport said they found methamphetamine in a film container in her carry-on bag.
Criminal proceedings were suspended when she was accepted into Drug Court on December 22. The court emphasizes treatment over incarceration.
Aunor, whose real name is Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, retains her Philippine citizenship but has spent much of her time in recent years at her home in Linda Vista, north of San Diego.
Known as "The Superstar" to her fans, she has appeared in more than 170 films and recorded more than two dozen albums, including scores of hit singles.
On screen, she has starred with many of the leading men of her time, including Joseph Estrada, who became the country's President. (AP)
