Arroyo in Cebu for 2-day visit; Kadaugan tops sked
CEBU CITY -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be in Cebu Thursday for a two-day visit.
Aside from witnessing the Kadaugan sa Mactan, the President will open two major traffic routes, an irrigation project, and housing units in the south.
She is scheduled to arrive at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base at 10 a.m. Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza, Rep. Nerissa Ruiz (Cebu, 6th district), Presidential Assistant Felix Guanzon, military and police officials will welcome her.
Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane of the Department of Public Work and Highways, Baltazar Usis of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA), Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano, and Government Media Group Secretary Cerge Remonde will accompany her.
The President will deliver a speech at the Kadaugan sa Mactan, an annual activity in Lapu-Lapu City to commemorate the historic 1521 Battle of Mactan at the Lapu-Lapu shrine.
She will then proceed to Naga town shortly before lunch to unveil the marker for the multimillion-peso Cebu South Road Improvement Project.
Phase 1 of the project covered the 11.65-kilometer road stretching from Talisay City to Toledo City and the rehabilitation of three bridges. The project cost P513.3 million.
Phase 2 was the concreting and widening of the 18.05-kilometer road from the Naga-Toledo junction to Carcar town. It cost P270.02 million.
The two projects were completed in November last year yet.
Arroyo will then go to Carcar town for the ceremonial switching of the control panel of the irrigation dam in Barangay Can-Asujan.
The irrigation system cost the government P585.7 million. It will serve 12 of the 15 barangays in the southern town.
At 2 p.m., Arroyo will be in Talisay City to inspect the ongoing construction of PIO Village in Barangay Dumlog, where 360 houses will be built for homeless families in Cebu.
In the evening, she will be the guest of honor at the ribbon-cutting at the Marco Polo Hotel in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City.
The President will spend the night at the Malacañang sa Sugbu.
On Friday, Arroyo will preside over a briefing on the Cebu Asean summit preparation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
At 1 p.m. she will leave for Bacolod City. (AIV of Sun.Star Cebu)
