Notorious pusher slain in shootout with police By Rex C. Otero
DAVAO CITY -- An alleged notorious drug pusher in the Talomo area was shot dead after he tried to shoot it out with police during a buy-bust operation Tuesday night.
Dead on arrival at the Sanitarium General Hospital in Davao City was Julius Gonzaga, of legal age, resident of Talomo Cemento.
Reports said the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Southern Mindanao, led by Senior Superintendent Wilkins Villanueva along, conducted the buy-bust operation at midnight.
Police said Gonzaga is the source of illegal drugs in Talomo and Matina areas.
Senior Police Officer 3 Rito Montederamos, who acted as poseur buyer, bought P700 worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu from the suspect, while PO3 Basilio Toroba served as back up.
After handing over to the suspect the P700 marked money and receiving the suspected shabu, Montederamos introduced himself as a policeman.
Before he could arrest Gonzaga, the latter pulled out a caliber .357 revolver and fired at Montederamos but missed.
A firefight ensued and Gonzaga was hit in the body.
Recovered from Gonzaga are the P700 marked money and a small sachet of suspected shabu.
Talomo police lead by investigator SPO3 Joven Victoriano immediately responded to the crime scene.
The Scene of the Crime Operations also recovered a caliber .357 revolver with four empty shells, two live bullets, and two slugs of caliber .45 pistol.
The suspect's dead body was brought to the Angel Funeral Parlor. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
