Sayyaf chief Janjalani sighted in Sulu: military
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Elusive Abu Sayyaf Chieftain Khadaffy Janjalani was reportedly sighted in Sulu recently, Major General Eugene Cedo, Philippine Army's First Tabak Infantry Division commander, said.
Cedo's troops are deployed as far as Sulu Archipelago where Army soldiers help their counterparts from other units and the police run after the al Qaeda-linked terrorists.
Cedo said based on reports from his soldiers on the ground, Janjalani was spotted in the province some months ago this year. He said believes that Janjalani remains highly mobile -- always on the run to evade pursuing troops tracking him down.
Southern Command chief Lieutenant General Gabriel Habacon, in a separate interview, vowed to hunt down Janjalani. He is confident that the nation's "most wanted terrorist and his sub-leaders will eventually be caught by the long arm of the law."
He said there is a standing directive from the commander-in-chief, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, to continue without let-up the neutralization drive of dreaded terrorist groups here in the south, particularly the Abu Sayyaf and the Jemaah Islamiya, Asia's terror link to Osama Bin Laden's al Qaeda network.
