Davao Oriental wood firm owner shot dead By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO CITY -- The top executive and part owner of a plywood factory in Lambajon, Baganga, Davao Oriental was gunned down by unknown assailants in Metro Manila on Saturday.
Hudson Chua, in his late 30s, was the manager of Baganga Plywood Company Inc., which his family owned.
Many of Chua's friends, including Surigao del Sur Congressman Prospero Pichay and Davao Oriental Congresswoman Corazon Malanyaon, said they heard about the tragic incident but still have to get details about it.
An initial report said Hudson, who was also coordinating the family firm's operations in Zamboanga and other parts of the country, was reportedly inside his service vehicle along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City when shot.
The report said the gunmen were on a motorcycle, and that they could have followed Chua's car and waited for an opportunity to attack.
The shooting reportedly took place around 2 p.m. Police are still looking into the crime.
Pichay said he believed that business rivalry might have something to do with the murder.
Davao-based friends of the victim did not also discount the possibility that Chua's death was "business-related." (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
