DAVAO CITY -- A young man died while his two companions were injured when the motorcycle they were on crashed onto a cement wall along Suazo Street at close to dawn Monday when they tried to outrun a police vehicle.

Police officer Jerry Cunanan of the Sta. Ana Police Precinct identified the young man who was killed as Raffy Inayangan, 20, a student.

Brought to the Davao Medical Center for treatment were Jeffrey Gomez, 19, and Roldan Tulin, 21, all residents of Sobrecarey Street in Barrio Obrero.

Initial investigation showed the three were onboard a red motorcycle at around 3 a.m. in Barrio Obrero.

A policeman assigned with the Mobile Patrol Group said they were patrolling the area when they saw the motorcycle passed by at top speed.

He said they chased the three men and ordered them to stop.

"Stop, you might meet an accident!" the police shouted through the megaphone.

Instead of slowing down, the motorcycle sped up some more and headed to Suazo Street.

The policemen caught up with the three only after they slammed into the cement wall.

The motorcycle wheel got twisted and the handlebar and muffler were yanked off.

Recovered from the three were an improvised gun with bullets, knife, and ice pick.

"The deadly weapons must have been the reason why they refused to stop," the desk officer said.

Police said they are still trying to check the background of the victims to determine why they were armed. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
