3 men, boy killed by two Cafgu men

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Two militiamen shot and killed four civilians, one of whom was a 16-year-old boy, at Barangay Tambilil in Kiamba, Sarangani Province.

The boy and his cousin were killed because they witnessed the murder of the two original targets.

Brothers Ferdinand Alcontin, 27, and Antonio, 24 were the original targets of the two members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu).

The two brothers were on their way home from the sea at around 7 p.m. Tuesday when Cafgu members Erwin Loyloy and Alexander Gamuita sprayed them with bullets from an M16 armalite rifle.

Sasa Mendoza and Ronel Guillermo, 16, who were walking on the same road on their way to watch a video screening in the barangay center of Tambilil witnessed what happened and were themselves killed.

The Alcontin brothers and Mendoza died on the spot while residents said Guillermo was still alive when they reached him.

One Ronie Equina, a neighbor of the victims, said Guillermo was even able to name those who shot them.

"Unsay among sala nganong gipusil man mi? Mabuhi pa kaha ko (What's our fault, why were we shot? Will I still live)?" Equina quoted Guillermo as asking just before he died.

Residents still brought Guillermo to the Kiamba Municipal Hospital but he was already dead by then.

Sunday before the massacre, the two Cafgu men sprayed the house owned by the Alcontins.

Ferdinand was grazed by a bullet and was brought to the hospital for treatment.

The mother of the two brothers said the Cafgu men have long held a grudge against her sons. At one time, she said, they even pummeled his son with the butt of their gun on the mere accusation that he was cutting grass at night.

The mother said the real reason is that Loyloy and Gamuita were eyeing the same women the brothers were courting.

The two brothers were the ones working to provide for their mother who is already a widow.

Loyloy and Gamuita are now behind bars and multiple murder charges have already been filed against them Thursday.

Leo Sua, chief of the Kiamba police, said it was apparent that personal grudge was behind the massacre.

He added that the two Cafgus were claiming that the Alcontin brothers attacked them with bolos, but residents in the area say otherwise.

The two suspects have already been disarmed. Brigadier General Alfredo Cayton, 601st Army Brigade commander, said he has already ordered 57th Infantry Battalion commander Colonel Flaviano Sembran to dismiss the two suspects. (AZ of Sun.Star Superbalita Socsksargen)
