CAMP OLIVAS -- Operatives of the police's Traffic Management Group (TMG) recovered late Tuesday evening carnapped vehicles from the house of a former chief of the TMG in Central Luzon who was earlier allegedly sacked for falsifying his credentials.

Napoleon Cauyan, former TMG chief for Central Luzon, is now facing carnapping charges on top of the investigation being conducted against him by the police's Directorate for Investigation and Detection Group for alleged forgery of his records.

TMG Director Errol Pan said his men swooped down on the residence of Cauyan in Mariveles in Bataan based on information provided by sources.

The raiding team found at the backyard of Cauyan's residence a Nissan Urvan, a Mitsubishi Pajero, and a Nissan Sentra sedan. The chassis of the Urvan and Pajero vehicles were tampered while the engine number of the Sentra car was faked.

Pan said 50 cut-up vehicle parts were also recovered from Cauyan's house.

Aside from a carnapping case, Cauyan is also facing administrative charges for the discovery of the carnapped vehicles.

"The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is now preparing charges for violation of the anti-carnapping law," said PNP Deputy Chief Isidro Lapeña.

Cauyan was ordered relieved by Pan last Monday on orders of PNP Chief Arturo Lomibao to pave the way for a thorough investigation against him on charges that he entered the police force fraudulently.

Meanwhile, PNP Deputy Director Oscar Calderon denied protecting Cauyan. Calderon said he is even supporting the investigation on Cauyan. "If the PNP finds him (Cauyan) guilty of faking his absorption papers and conducting other illegal activities, I would be recommending his immediate dismissal from the service and the filing of appropriate criminal charges," he said.

Cuayan was relieved as TMG chief in Central Luzon following complaints of alleged "irregularities" in his entry to the police force. His relief came after a group of "concerned citizens" wrote to Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno, complaining that Cuayan is an "impostor police officer." (Sun.Star Pampanga)
