Mayor, top police officials want cop punished By Ben O. Tesiorna and Rodamae M. Hernadez
DAVAO CITY -- Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and two top police officials in Davao City and the region are fuming mad over reports of abuses committed by a member of the force who was earlier involved in a video sex scandal with his lover.
Duterte said the city has no place for abusive policemen and he urged the filing of administrative and criminal charges against Police Chief Inspector Rolando Vilela.
Police Regional Director Ricardo Quinto, meanwhile, said he will see to it that Vilela be taught a lesson he would never forget.
"We really have to teach him a lesson," Quinto said Wednesday.
Davao City Police Office Director Catalino Cuy directed his men to expedite the filing of charges against Vilela over the incident along the Queensland baywalk in Times Beach Tuesday morning.
Vilela's former girlfriend Cristine Marie accused him of slapping her and indiscriminately firing his gun at around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Talomo Police Chief Matthew Baccay said Christine Marie is bent on filing charges against the police officer whose sex video with her recently came out in the public.
Vilela earlier denied it was he in the sex video. Christine Marie, however, admitted it was she and Vilela in the sex video.
Baccay said Tuesday's incident happened because of Vilela's jealousy.
Vilela wanted to talk with the woman for some time now but she hid from the police official. Their hide and seek drama ended that Tuesday morning.
The complainant filed charges of violence against women, grave threats, and illegal discharge of firearm against Vilela who could not be reached for comment as of this writing.
Meanwhile, Vilela's wife, Police Inspector Royina Garma Vilela, has accused her husband of breaking into her office and house in Elenita Heights in Mintal in three instances on May 12 at 9 p.m., May 13 at 1 p.m., and on May 15 at 8 a.m.
Royina, who made her mark as a police officer in the city handling cases involving children and women and is now with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Southern Mindanao, had the incidents recorded in the police blotter.
The first incident that Vilela entered Royina's house, he took her electronic organizer worth P11,000, her electric fan, and one set of general office attire uniform.
Sometime between May 11 and May 12, when no one was in the house, Royina's personal computer was accessed, some files were transferred to other folders, and several pornographic videos were added and saved.
On May 15, she said Vilela went into her quarters at the Davao City Police Office and took her set of Vulgari watch, rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets worth P162,000 and her Globe SIM card.
"I have no plan of filing a case. Besides, under the law, you can't sue your husband for crime against property," Royina said. (Sun.Star Davao)
