RP bats for diplomatic solution to nuclear issue involving Iran (10:26 a.m.)

MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called for continued negotiations to resolve Iran's nuclear issue.

As a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Bunye said the President expressed hope that Iran will address outstanding issues on its nuclear development with the agency in a clear and forthright manner.

In the recently concluded Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) MInisterial Meeting, the ministers encouraged Iran to urgently continue to cooperate actively and fully
with the IAEA as it is within the agency's mandate to resolve outstanding
issues in order to promote confidence and a peaceful resolution of
the issue.

The Philippines thus called upon the parties concerned to exhaust
diplomatic means to resolve the impasse. (JMR)
