RP sending transport plane to East Timor to evacuate 2nd batch of nationals (3:30 p.m.)

MANILA -- A Philippine Air Force transport plane flew to East Timor on Monday to evacuate a second batch of 48 nationals, the government said.

The first group of 65 Filipino workers was flown back home from East Timor's violence-wrecked capital, Dili, on May 28.

Air Force Spokesman Augusto dela Pena said the C-130 aircraft left Manila for Dili via the Australian City of Darwin on late Sunday and was expected to return to Manila with the passengers later Monday.

87 Filipinos have remained in East Timor, said Gilbert Asuque, spokesman for the foreign affairs department. (AP)
