Prelates' group to speak on political controversies (10:41 a.m.)

MANILA -- The country's Roman Catholic bishops will issue Monday a new pastoral statement on the political issues hounding the country at the close of their two-day plenary assembly.

The statement is expected to be read by Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo.

The CBCP formed a committee to draft the pastoral statement, which is expected to dwell on the latest impeachment move against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the extra-judicial killings of militants and journalists, and the aborted withdrawal of support to Arroyo by some ranking military officers.
