Lawmaker wants Senate probe on workers' funds deferred (10:41 a.m.)

MANILA -- Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. said the Senate
should halt its investigation into the alleged
misuse of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
(Owwa) funds until the evacuation of all Overseas
Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Lebanon is completed.

He said officials of Owwa, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) as well as other government officials summoned to attend the Senate hearing are busy over the repatriation of over 30,000 OFWs from Lebanon.

"With all due respect to this institution and my colleagues, I think it would be best for all to wait after the evacuation mission in Lebanon is over before
we summon everyone to account to this chamber and to the people as well," Revilla said.

He said what the main concern of the government is the safety and repatriation of the country's so-called modern day heroes and everyone in the government should unite for the task.

"There's a time for accounting and accountability, and by the time we have ensured the safety of our OFWs in Lebanon, officials of the concerned agencies would have no reason not to face this chamber's inquiry anymore," Revilla said. (REC)
