Almost 30T people crowd evacuation areas in Albay (11:16 a.m.)
MANILA -- Mayon continued to be restive on Wednesday, prompting at least 29,530 inhabitants living near the volcano to flee to designated evacuation places.
The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) has counted 5,990 families in 18 evacuation centers as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The evacuees were from 23 barangays located in the eight-kilometer extended danger zone around Mayon.
The NDCC expects more people to go to evacuation centers.
This, as the Albay Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) is monitoring the health of the evacuees as they feared the outbreak of diarrhea and respiratory diseases because of the crowded condition
in the evacuation centers. (Sunnex) |
