Gov't, Moro rebels to decide if US can join monitoring team: group head (10:30 a.m.)

MANILA -- The participation of the US in the group that monitors the peace negotiations between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) would depend on the Arroyo administration and the rebel organization.

Pahlawan Soheimi bin Abbas, head of the Malaysian-dominated International Monitoring Team (IMT), said as far as he is concerned “I welcome everybody”.

He declined to comment on reports that Malaysia, host of the negations between the Philippine Government and the MILF, is against the inclusion of American representatives in the IMT claiming that since the year that he has stayed in the country, he has not been in touch with the developments in his country.
