Anti-impeach lawmakers walk out from session hall (5:45 p.m.)

MANILA – Majority members of the House justice committee walked out from the session hall past four Wednesday afternoon after people from gallery have allegedly disrupted the proceedings by waving or fanning using a white envelope.

Representative Simeon Datumanong ordered the transfer of the hearing to a smaller conference room wherein people from the gallery can no longer be accommodated.

The heckling started when Representative Luis Villafuerte, an anti-impeachment lawmaker, said, “its cheap gimmickry, nakakahiya,” referring to the waving or fanning of white envelopes.

The gallery also reacted after a congressman pointed to a poster placed in front of the rostrum used by the minority legislators that urged President Arroyo and her allies in Congress not to be afraid and not appear guilty by allowing the presentation of evidence against the President.

The decision to continue the hearing in a small conference room was met with howls from the audience in the gallery. (Sunnex)
