2 kids abducted by yaya, rescued By Ben O. Tesiorna
DAVAO CITY -- Police rescued the two minors who were abducted by their former nanny last week and brought to a far-flung barangay in Maragusan, Compostela Valley.
The minors identified as Via Grace, 7, and brother Brylle Jun, 10, were reported missing by their parents on August 17 after they failed to return home that day.
Parents Grace and Flaviano Imbo told police authorities that several people saw the kids being fetched by their nanny, Marivic Limikid, that afternoon.
In a follow-up operation, authorities discovered Limikid's hideout in a barangay in Maragusan, several kilometers away from the town center. The area could only be reached on foot.
The mother said police operatives called her at around 5 p.m. on August 19 informing her that her children were rescued from the hands of their abductor and were safe at the Maragusan Police station.
"We immediately went there that same afternoon and we reached Maragusan at around 10 p.m.," Grace told Sun.Star in a telephone interview Sunday morning.
She said the kids were not physically harmed by their nanny but Via Grace is said to be traumatized by the incident and was not able to eat the entire time they were with the suspect.
"Via Grace is still shaking until now and she keeps on crying. Brylle said they were treated well but Via Grace still refused to eat and just kept crying," said the mother.
It was learned that the suspect has been known to the family for almost two years now and was close to the two children. She transferred employment with a home nearby just recently.
Grace said the nanny tricked the two kids into going with her by telling them that their mother had an accident in Tagum City.
"So when my kids thought I had an accident in Tagum, they immediately went with Marivic," Grace said.
Limikid and the children boarded a taxi from their school in Royal Valley, Bangkal and went to Magsaysay Park where they boarded a bus bound for Tagum.
They then spent the night over at the Tagum terminal and boarded a bus for Maragusan, Friday morning.
Grace said her son Brylle was already suspicious of their nanny that time but was not able to call or text any relatives as the nanny warned him against doing so.
"My son said he wanted to borrow a cellphone from one of the other male passengers just so he could text and contact us, but he said he got shy," Grace said.
Upon arriving in Maragusan, Limikid reportedly left the children's school bags in a house in Poblacion before proceeding to another house located several kilometers away.
Asked what possible reason the suspect has in abducting her children, Grace said she could not think of one.
"But Marivic told the police she was angry at me. But we have been good to her and she has been good to us and the kids," Grace said.
A few months ago, the suspect decided to work with another family just across the Imbos' house in NHA Bangkal.
But on July 18, she asked her former employers to allow her to live with them for a while because she resigned from her work.
"I agreed because she was close to us and the kids," Grace said.
A day before the abduction, Grace said the suspect informed her that she will be going home to her hometown in Maragusan.
This information proved to be very helpful in locating the whereabouts of the suspect and the kids.
Police authorities are still conducting further investigation while the suspect is now at the custody of the Talomo Police.
Grace said authorities suspect that Limikid is not working alone and could have been prodded by someone to abduct the kids.
It was learned that the suspect did not make any ransom demands. The Imbo family, too, is not that well off to become a possible target of a kidnap for ransom group. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
