Supposed bomber denies carrying out security test (7:30 p.m.)
MANILA -- Samson Macariola, the man accused of carrying a live bomb inside a plane on a flight from Manila to Davao and back, surfaced at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday to deny allegations in the wake of calls for charges to be filed against him.
In an affidavit sworn before NBI special task force chief Reynaldo Esmeralda, Macariola said he was unjustly portrayed in news reports as the unnamed "security and anti-terrorism expert" who was able to sneak in a bomb at the airport last August 14 to prove its security lapses.
Macariola claims to be an consultant, lecturer and trainer in the field of firearms, ammunition and explosives.
He has published a book on the subject in 2000 and have at various times, conducted lectures among NBI agents in 2002-2004; members of the PNP in Davao City; PNP Aviation Security Group assigned in Davao City airport and elements of Task Force Davao-4th Infantry Division.
"I categorically and vehemently deny the utterly false, misleading and malicious allegations and innuendos that I brought an actual bomb or explosive device inside a plane on that particular flight or on any other flight for that matter," he said. (ECV/Sunnex) |
