Central Luzon's 2 most wanted killed in clash By Marna H. Dagumboy
CAMP OLIVAS -- Two of the region's most wanted persons were killed in an encounter with policemen in Barangay Anao in Mexico on Thursday.
One of those slain was Cesario Sarmiento while his companion remained unidentified as of press time.
A report said that at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sarmiento, along with his cohort, was seen roaming around the Mexico town center, prompting the police to order an operation for their arrest.
The two were allegedly responsible for a string of murders in the province, police records showed.
During the operation, Sarmiento and his cohort had somehow sensed danger and sped towards Magalang town but were cornered by policemen on the Ninoy Aquino Highway in the barangay.
The still unidentified suspect fired at the pursuing policemen, prompting them to fire back.
Prior to the incident, Mexico Police Chief Bernie Perez received a call from a concerned citizen that two armed men on board a blue Honda XRM motorcycle were seen roaming in the town.
He said he immediately asked for backup from the Police Provincial Office and went after the suspects. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
