Gov't assures Subic rape victim of justice (8:25 p.m.)

MANILA -- Malacaņang said Sunday that justice will be served to the victim of the Subic rape case and her family allaying fears that the government might simply allow the charges against the four US soldiers to be dismissed in exchange for former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn "Joc joc" Bolante who is now under the American custody.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the two cases are very different from each other and Bolante is no longer connected with the government.

He added that any assistance to be extended to Bolante would be similar, if not limited, to the assistance being extended to any other Filipinos abroad who are in jail.

"You can be very sure justice would be meted out fairly and properly. I do not believe in quid pro quo in the two cases. In the first place, the government has no involvement in Bolante's case," he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
