6 killed, 3 missing after landslide hits minibus (4:20 p.m.)

BAGUIO CITY -- At least six minibus passengers were killed and three others were missing when their vehicle was hit by a landslide and fell into a ravine during heavy rains in the northern Philippines, a civil defense report said Friday.

The report said several passengers got out of the vehicle to help clear a road blocked by a small landslide late Thursday in Mountain Province, about 280 kilometers north of Manila.

A few minutes later, a bigger landslide slammed into the minibus and threw it off the road into a ravine about 30 meters deep, killing six passengers, including some of the volunteers, said Fred Bragas of the Office of Civil Defense.

The driver and two passengers were still missing and seven others were injured, the report said. (AP)
