Palace appeals to Senate not to inject politics in deliberating on 2007 budget (10:32 a.m.)

MANILA -- Malacañang said the proposed P1.126 trillion national budget for 2007 should not be held hostage by partisan interests in the Senate.

The Palace issued the statement while it thanked the House of Representatives for approving the 2007 budget after an 18-hour marathon session that started last Thursday and ended early Friday last week.

“We are now banking our hopes on the Senate to put an end to the cycle of reenacted budgets,” said Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye.

Bunye, who is also Presidential spokesman, said the Arroyo administration has worked twice using a re-enacted budget and that both chambers of Congress has only recently approved the P46.4 billion supplemental budget for 2006. (JMR)
