Court freezes Makati mayor's suspension
MANILA (Updated 6:30 p.m.) -- The Court of Appeals (CA) ordered Malacañang and the Interior and Local Government office to stop implementing the suspension of Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay Thursday.
The Appellate court stops the Department of Interior and Local Government and Malacañang from pursuing the investigation against Binay. The order is to take effect immediately.
The complainant, former vice mayor Roberto Brillante, was also ordered by the court to show cause why Binay should not be granted an injunction.
Binay interviewed over ABS-CBN said he is relieved of the decision since finally the complainant will be forced to name who really are the "ghost" employees.
Malacañang welcomed the court decision, but Interior Department Undersecretary Wencelito Andanar said the restraining order has no effect since suspension order has been served.
Binay and all members of the City Council were placed under a 60-day preventive suspension Tuesday pending investigation on alleged "ghost" City Hall employees.
The restraining order only covered Binay since the members of the City Council only filed their petition Wednesday. (Sunnex)
