Palace bares name of 3rd Bali bomber hiding in Mindanao (8:35 p.m.)
MANILA -- Malacaņang has identified the third Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) bomber with Dulmatin and Patek as a certain Bahar, another Indonesian who was involved in the deadly Bali bombing in October 2002.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Istiada Oemar Sovie alias Amenah Toha, wife of JI bomber Dulmatin, revealed about Bahar during her interrogation. Sovie earlier said there are still terrorists left in Mindanao.
Ermita also said Sovie claimed that she and the bombers were able to move around Mindanao with ease because they are not known in the area.
He said while the bombers are hiding in the Philippines, they took the opportunity to train members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) on how to handle bombs. He said it is also possible that the JI terrorists are the ones picking the targets to be bombed.
Ermita said government will check reports that former members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and current members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are helping the terrorists elude the military and plot their bombing targets. (JMR with Press release/Sunnex) |
