Air Force captain held for snubbing military court hearing (10:28 a.m.)
MANILA -- A junior officer from the Philippine Air Force (PAF) had been ordered detained for failing to appear before a general court martial which was to arraign him for allegedly being absent without official leave (Awol) and for moonlighting with a commercial airline, officials reported Tuesday.
Air Force spokesman Augusto dela Peña named the officer as Captain
Robert Solis, a pilot who was placed under the custody of Brigadier General Ronaldo Capacia, commanding general of the 520th Air Base Wing based at the Air Force headquarters in Villamor Air Base (VAB) in Pasay City.
“He is under custody of the commanding officer of the 520th Air Base Wing because he failed to appear before the GCM (general court martial) last Friday. He was supposed to be arraigned by the court,” said dela Peña of Solis.
A case of violation of the Article of War (AW) 97 or conduct prejudicial to good order and military discipline for going Awol had been earlier lodged against Solis for working with a commercial airline, which he declined to identify, while still in the active service.
Before going Awol, dela Peña said Solis filed for his resignation before the Air Force Adjutant effective December 2005. But his papers were returned due to
lack of clearance from the Air Force Provost Marshal.
"“He was charged for violation of AW 97 because he has gone Awol and is moonlighting. He was not considered officially resigned and he is working outside (the Air Force,)”" dela Peña said.
Dela Peña also said Air Force investigators have evidence to prove that Solis, previously assigned with the Air Force 205th Helicopter Wing, was already flying a commercial aircraft even when he was still in the active service. (VR) |
