Military bares plot to spring out coup plotters from prison (6:05 p.m.)
THE Armed Forces on Wednesday bared plans by certain groups to "rescue" six of the 13 detained Marine officers implicated in the failed plan to overthrow the Arroyo government last February, prompting the Navy to plan their transfer from the Marine headquarters in Fort Bonifacio.
The six officers are going to be confined at the Fort San Felipe in Cavite, which Navy spokesman Giovanni Bacordo said is a more secure place. The facility houses dozens of Navy officers involved in the Oakwood mutiny in July 2003.
Bacordo identified the six officers who are due to be transferred as Medal for Valor awardees Ariel Querubin and Custodio Parcon; colonels Januario Caringal, and Orlando de Leon; and lieutenant colonels Armando Baņez and Acquilles Segumallian. (VR/Sunnex) |
