Arroyo says she won't give up on Charter change (10:27 a.m.)

MANILA -- A day after the Supreme Court (SC) rebuffed her administration's push for Charter change via a people's initiative, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Thursday said she will continue advocating for a revision of the 1987 Constitution.

In an interview over radio station dzRH early Thursday morning, Arroyo said Charter change "is needed to heal the Philippines."

She lauded the proponents and oppositors of Charter change for being sober on the issue and discussing its merits and demerits fully,

Arroyo has left to the Sigaw ng Bayan and Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (Ulap), the proponents of the people's initiative, to file an appeal of the decision of the high court to dismiss their petition.

The SC voted 8-7 against the people's initiative petition for being fraudulent and because of the questionable way it was done.

In the same radio interview, Arroyo asked the people to pray for the success of her trip to China this week as she expects to get more investments there for the country. (JMR)
