Moro rebel leader sues military for truce violations (4:55 p.m.)

MANILA -- A top official of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Tuesday filed a complaint against the Armed Forces in connection with a string of supposed infractions of a standing truce forged by the MILF and the government four years ago.

The chairman of the MILF's Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH), Von Al-Haq, submitted his complaint to his government counterpart, Brigadier General Edgardo Gurrea, the MILF said in its website www.luwaran.com.

Al-Haq also sought the relief of the commanding officer of the Army's 64th Infantry Battalion (IB) -- Lieutenant Colonel Roseller Murillo -- whom MILF leaders accused of sabotaging the ongoing peace process between the MILF and government.

The violations include the putting up of a command post of the 64th IB in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao without the prior consent of the MILF-CCCH and the International Monitoring Team, which is overseeing the implementation of the truce. (JMR/Sunnex)
