CAGAYAN DE ORO -- The capture of former senator Gregorio Honasan will not cause restiveness in the military, an army spokesman said Wednesday, adding the ex-military official "must face the judicial process and respect the rule of law."

Though Honasan is popular among soldiers, his arrest will not generate sympathy and controversy among the troops that might destabilize the military, said Major Samuel Sagun, spokesman for the Cagayan de Oro-based Fourth Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

The ex-senator has no choice left but to face the law, said Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente Emano, a staunch Malacaņang supporter, said in an interview with ABS-CBN Wednesday.
