Congresswomen meet Subic rape victim (7:44 p.m.)

MANILA -- Women legislators on Wednesday met with Nicole, the Filipino woman who was allegedly raped by an American serviceman in Subic Bay Freeport in November last year, and discussed her case which is set to be ruled upon by the Makati City court next week.

The women legislators, led by Liza Maza, party-list representative of the pro-women group Gabriela, met with Nicole to be briefed on the status of her case, which will give them ideas on whether there is a need to amend the anti-rape law.

Nicole arrived in the House of Representatives accompanied by her lawyer, Evalyn Ursua. They met the legislators in a close-door meeting.

Maza said Nicole does not want the presence of the media while she was discussing her case with the legislators.

Las Piņas Representative Cynthia Villar said they invited Nicole so they could be informed personally by the alleged raped victim about her case. (DBP/Sunnex)
