Estrada co-accused arraigned (12:02 p.m.)

MANILA -- Charlie "Atong" Ang, co-accused of detained former President Joseph Estrada in a plunder case, did not enter any plea when he faced on Wednesday the Sandiganbayan Special Division.

The anti-graft court thus entered a not guilty plea for Ang.

The special division, meanwhile, rejected Ang's plea for his continued detention at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila due to threats to his life.

The court said Ang failed to substantiate his claim that his life is under threat and thus ordered Ang's detention at the Quezon City jail.

Ang returned to the country from the US where stayed for nearly six years. He fled to the US in January 2001 after Estrada was ousted from office. (Sunnex)
