Sandiganbayan orders Estrada co-accused committed to Quezon City jail (11:40 a.m.)

MANILA -- The Sandganbayan Special Division hearing the plunder charges against former President Joseph Estrada on Wednesday arraigned Estrada drinking buddy Charlie "Atong" Ang and ordered him detained at the Quezon City Jail.

The anti-graft court rejected Ang's request to remain in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila due to threats to his life.

Ang arrived in the country last Friday after spending nearly six years in the US where to fled to after Estrada was kicked out of office in January 2001. (DBP)
