Arroyo off to Vietnam for Apec meet (8:22 p.m.)

MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will leave for Vietnam late Friday afternoon to attend the 14th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, followed later on by a trip to Singapore.

Arroyo, together with her delegation, will leave the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Centennial Terminal at 5 p.m. for Hanoi. Upon arrival in Vietnam, she will meet the Filipino community at the Hotel Nikko.

On Saturday, Arroyo will attend the Asean 7 meeting with US President George W. Bush at 9 a.m. She will have bilateral meetings with Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper afterwards.

Malacañang is also hoping that she could have bilateral talks with Chile’s President Michelle Bachelet Jeria and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The President would also attend the Apec leaders’ retreat and the dialogue with the Apec Business Advisory Council (Abac), keynote the closing of the chief executive officer (CEO) summit, and attend the Apec’s official dinner and cultural presentation. (JMR/Sunnex)
