Pampanga mayors 'abandon' guv (9:41 p.m.)
By Albert B. Lacanlale and Marna H. Dagumboy

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Majority of Lakas party mayors and several others from other parties on Thursday took oath as new members of the Kabalikat ng Mamamayang Pilipino (Kampi), the mother political camp of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The defection paved the way for the formation of the Lakas Kapampangan local political organization under Kampi, and "is a big blow to the Pampanga chapter of the ruling party, which is being headed by Governor Mark Lapid."

However, the mayors, who are united under the Pampanga Mayors' League (PML), were quick to explain that their transfer to the Kampi Party does not mean that they are dropping their support for Lapid's reelection bid. (Sunnex)
