Arroyo, Bush meeting set (10:06 a.m.)
MANILA - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo meet US President George W. Bush when she attends the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) 7 meeting at the sidelights of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Arroyo left for Hanoi on Friday to attend the Apec conference.
Aside from Bush, Arroyo will also meet with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Malacañang is also hoping that she could have bilateral talks with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Jeria and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Arroyo said she will “aggressively push for closer economic and security cooperation in the larger Asia Pacific basin.”
She also said a “strategic alliance” against terror and poverty will be on top of her agenda in her bilateral talks with Bush.
"I aim to make the Philippines a key player in the emerging economic and security synergies of the region, considering our strategic location in the
Pacific rim and the presence of millions of overseas Filipinos whose presence are felt in building and bridging nations across the Pacific,"” she said. (JMR)
