Public satisfaction with Arroyo drops

MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's net performance and trust ratings plunged this November compared to July this year, a Pulse Asia survey showed.

The survey, which had 1,200 respondents, was conducted from October to November 2006.

It showed Arroyo's net approval rating dropping to -23 in November (25 percent approve versus 48 percent disapprove) from -18 last July (26 percent approve versus 44 percent disapprove).

Arroyo's worst net approval rating came from Metro Manila (-37, from -25 in July) followed by Luzon (-31, from -24 in July), Mindanao (-23, from -28 in July) and the Visayas (+3, from +10 in July).

The trend is the same by socioeconomic classes, where those from Classes A, B, C gave her a net approval rating of -7 (from -10 in July), -24 in Class D (from -23 in July), and -24 (from -15 in July).

Pulse Asia noted the number of critical Filipinos despite the administration's oft-cited improvements in national economic performance and fiscal management in the two quarters preceding the survey.

Arroyo's net trust ratings also dropped, from -24 (23 percent big trust versus 47 percent small trust) in July to -31 (21 percent big trust versus 50 percent small trust) this November. This means one out of two Filipinos distrusts her.

Her net trust rating plunged in all areas and socioeconomic classes, except in Mindanao and Class D. She got the worst rating of -38 in Luzon (from -24 in July), -36 in Metro Manila (from -30), zero in the Visayas (from +1), -30 in Mindanao (from -40), -24 in Class ABC (-11), -28 in Class D (from -31), and -31 in Class E (from -10).

Among the country's top five officials, Arroyo is the only one with negative and plunging approval marks. (Sunnex)
